What I wish I had known during my recovery

If you are reading this, you probably have a concussion. And your recovery is not going the way you hoped.

I know exactly how that feels. For years I had constant headaches, brain fog, aphasia, memory problems, tinnitus, sensory overload, swinging emotions, and the fear that everything I did made it worse. My list of symptoms never stopped. I lay at home on the couch and watched my life get smaller and smaller.

What bothered me most was what I kept being told. Rest, wait, and accept my new life and symptoms. How is that possible when I can no longer take part in my family, my friendships or society?

I am now 100% (!) recovered. And I have seen many people recover who were told to 'just accept their symptoms'.

Every year, 100,100 people in the Netherlands get a concussion, and for 10 to 30% the symptoms last longer than six months. So you are not the only one, even if it feels that way.

That is why I built MyConcussionCoach: the recovery program I wish I had when I was on that couch. A place with overview across all the disciplines, where you train instead of accept, and where there is hope of recovery.

Because I know how heavy doubt weighs, it starts with a free intake. What a waste it would be to spend weeks wondering whether this is right for you. That is time you could have spent on your recovery, or on finding another program.

It is my mission that no one has to sit on the couch as needlessly long as I did. And I work for that through MyConcussionCoach and at a national level.

Warm regards,

Winnifred

Questions I often get

How long do symptoms last after a concussion?+

For most people they are gone within a few weeks. For 10 to 30% they last longer than six months. This is called post-concussion syndrome. Even then you can still recover, and I know that from my own experience.

Can you really fully recover from long-term symptoms?+

Yes. I had symptoms for years myself and am now fully recovered. With the right build-up and guidance, many people get a long way back, even when recovery first seems to have stalled.

What symptoms come with a concussion?+

Headaches, brain fog, trouble with concentration and memory, fatigue, sensitivity to stimuli, tinnitus and the fear of making it worse.

What can you do if the symptoms persist?+

Do not keep waiting endlessly. A program that makes you stronger step by step often helps more than rest alone. That is what MyConcussionCoach is for, and you start with a free intake.
